John E. Lawler - Town Supervisor
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Town employees have been hard at work ensuring our town parks, recreational facilities, and roads are well maintained and secure. Our road paving program last year was the largest in town history with paving in nearly every area of our community. Surveillance cameras have been installed at all town facilities to improve security. We recently purchased a new wing plow that will greatly enhance our snow removal program. Although the cost of implementing and maintaining these services is costly, the Town Board is committed to maximizing every tax dollar for the greatest benefit of Waterford’s taxpayers and citizens. I am very pleased to announce this year’s tax rate will be minimized to less than 1 per cent (0.86%), far below the 2% allowable tax cap mandated by New York State. My thanks to the Town Board and all town employees for their continued hard work and effort in finding ways to ensure we deliver quality services at a reasonable cost.
The Town Board is always proud to recognize the personal, historical and cultural milestones reached by members of our community. This past October we honored Aurore Walsh, an active and lifelong member of our community, who recently celebrated her 100th Birthday. Aurore attended the October board meeting with her family and the Town Board declared October 1st, 2013 as Aurore Walsh Day in the Town of Waterford. At the same meeting, we recognized St. Mary of the Assumption Parish which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary of their church. The parish is a valued member of the Waterford family and has touched the lives of many of our residents. The Town Board declared October 4th, 5th and 6th 2013 as St. Mary’s Parish Days throughout the Town of Waterford.
The Town is moving forward with construction of a new Senior Center beginning this spring. The new building will replace the current facility which is well over 100 years old. This building will be energy efficient and will meet the needs of our Seniors for many years to come. As details are finalized we will make them available on the Town’s website, www.town.waterford.ny.us.
We would like to thank everyone who was involved in helping to make our Holiday Parade a success. It was wonderful to see so many friends and neighbors come out to celebrate the start of the Holiday season. Please visit our calendar on the towns website for other community activities planned this season.
On behalf of the Town Board members and all our employees, we wish you and your family the warmest of holiday season!
Our Hearts and prayers are with our Troops all over the world!
