Town of Waterford, New York Marks 200 Years!

March 21, 2016 (Waterford, NY)

– The Town of Waterford is proud to announce the celebration of its 200th Anniversary during 2016; and in partnership with Supervisor John Lawler and the Waterford Town Board, the Waterford Bicentennial Committee will be hosting several different events as part of the year-long celebration.

Situated at the gateway of the New York State Canal System, Waterford is a close-knit, multi-generational community with a rich industrial heritage. Residents today continue to follow a tradition of family and community pride as we remember our past and look forward to our future!

Our first celebration will be a Founder’s Day Ceremony on April 16th at 4 pm at the Waterford-Halfmoon School Auditorium. The ceremony will be attended by local elected officials and other distinguished guests, and feature selections from the Waterford-Halfmoon High School Band and Chorus. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at McGreivey’s Restaurant starting at 5:30 pm.

Most recently, the committee released a 2016 Waterford Bicentennial Commemorative Calendar. The calendar features a collection of photos submitted by local photographers featuring fascinating and unique viewpoints of this vibrant and historic town. The calendars make great gifts and will serve as a wonderful keepsake to mark the year. Calendars are on sale for a now reduced price of $10.00 each, and can be purchased at the Waterford Town Clerk’s Office, Waterford Public Library, BOHO Chic Boutique, and McGreivey’s Restaurant.

The Town and Committee would also like to invite and encourage Waterford organizations, businesses, and groups to mark this momentous occasion with your own commemorations and events. We would love to hear from you!
