Ray Morse named 2009 Emergency Responder of the Year

Ray Morse named 2009 Emergency Responder of the YearEvery year Raymond Morse takes the first week of October off from work in order to devote his full attention to Fire Prevention Week activities in area schools and with the rest of the community.

“He uses vacation time or just takes the time off and does not get paid for it at all,” said Waterford Fire Chief John Fairclough.

In recognition of Morse’s six years as the department’s fire prevention officer, the Waterford Town Board recognized him as the Emergency Responder of the Year during their October Town Board Meeting.

“He is very dedicated and committed to education,” said Fairclough, who nominated him for the 2nd annual award.

Each year, Morse has educated more than 600 students and nearly 1,000 community members about fire prevention and safety, said Commissioner of Public Safety John Tanchak.

“It’s time that we recognize all these men and women who volunteer their time and help with the public safety of our community,” said Tanchak.

A lifelong native of Waterford, Morse attended the Waterford-Halfmoon School District and has been with the village department for 13 years.
