ROUTE 32 COHOES-WATERFORD BRIDGE WEEKEND CLOSURES, JULY 2017

Motorists are advised that the Cohoes Waterford Bridge will close for four weekends in July, with the first closure starting July 7, as work to build a new bridge carrying Route 32 over the Mohawk River continues.

The first closure begins Friday, July 7, at 8 p.m. The bridge will reopen by Monday, July 10, at 6 a.m.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured using Ontario Street (Route 470) in Cohoes and the 112th Street Bridge over the Hudson River, then to Second Avenue (Route 4) in North Troy/Lansingburgh to the 126th Street Bridge carrying Route 4 over the Hudson River into Waterford.

Pedestrian access will be maintained across the existing bridge.

The closures are necessary to allow for work to reconstruct Route 32 leading to the new bridge, including earthwork, utility work, and installing new curbing and pavement as part of the $21.4 million project to build a new bridge.

The remaining closures are:

 Friday, July 14 at 8 p.m. until Monday, July 17 at 6 a.m.

 Friday, July 21 at 8 p.m. until Monday July 24 at 6 a.m.

 Friday July 28 at 8 p.m. until Monday July 31 at 6 a.m.

Motorists driving through the area are asked to use the posted detour and not use other, local streets as an alternative.

New Courtland Street from Route 32 to Mohawk Street in Cohoes will also be closed at night during part of the July 21-23 weekend to pave the new intersection on the Cohoes

side of the bridge. Traffic will be detoured via Mohawk and Ontario streets during those hours; the exact times will be determined closer to that weekend and will depend upon the weather.

All homes and businesses in the area will continue to be accessible during construction, and CDTA bus service, trash pickup and other services in the area will continue to be provided. Emergency services and other local officials have been notified of the construction work.

Motorists must use caution when traveling through the work zone and are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
