Hike through History at Peebles Island State Park

Please join the Friends of Peebles Island State Park for a history hike of our picturesque Island situated at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers.  This easy, up to two-mile hike, follows the perimeter of the Island which is rich in history, wildlife and scenery.  Learn about the geological and glacial formation of the Island, the Native American presence in the area and Mohican village on the Island, early Dutch heritage, the Revolutionary War encampment by the Continental Army in 1777 and earthwork fortifications that still exist, area industry, and Island flora and fauna. Two hikes will be offered at 10:00am and 1:00pm.  A shorter walk will also be available at each time that covers the history of the Park. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.
