Members of the Waterford Police Department will be participating in several upcoming Traffic Safety Enforcement Mobilizations
The Town of Waterford Police Department will be participating in the 2024 No Empty Chair Campaign. The “No Empty Chair” teen driving safety education and enforcement campaign raises awareness of highway dangers in the hope there will be no empty chairs during prom and graduation season. In addition to educating students about safe driving, state and local law enforcement increase patrols near local high schools throughout the state, and officers are vigilant in enforcing violations of the Graduated Driver Licensing law. The target dates for 2024 are as follows:
Monday, April 22, 2024 – Speeding in School Zones
Tuesday, April 23, 2024 – Seat Belt and Child Restraints
Wednesday, April 24, 2024 – Cell Phone Use and Texting
Thursday, April 25, 2024 – Operation Safe Stop
Friday, April 26, 2024 - Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving
The Town of Waterford Police Department will be participating in the 2024 Operation Safe Stop Campaign. Operation Safe Stop is an education and enforcement program to create awareness about the dangers of passing stopped school buses. This year, Operation Safe Stop Education and Enforcement Day will take place on 04/25/2024.
The Town of Waterford Police Department will be participating in the 2024 Buckle Up New York Click it or Ticket Enforcement Campaign. The enforcement period will be from 05/20/24 to 06/02/24.
The Town of Waterford Police Department will be participating in the 2024 Speed Awareness Week, a high visibility mobilization aimed at reducing incidence of speed related crashes. The enforcement period will be from 06/03/2024 to 06/09/2024.

Saratoga County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update – PUBLIC NOTICE
In coordination with Saratoga County, the Cities of: Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, Towns of: Ballston, Charlton, Clifton Park, Corinth, Day, Edinburg, Galway, Greenfield, Hadley, Halfmoon, Malta, Milton, Moreau, Northumberland, Providence, Saratoga, Stillwater, Waterford, Wilton, and Villages of: Ballston Spa, Corinth, Galway, Round Lake, Schuylerville, Stillwater, South Glens Falls, Victory, and Waterford, are updating the Saratoga County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The Plan Update will address hazards that affect the area. The goal of the Plan Update is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards through effective mitigation. Saratoga County will hold public meetings to gather public input for updating their Hazard Mitigation Plan. The purpose of the public meeting is to provide a project overview from H2O Partners, Inc., consultant to the project, and solicit information from citizens. Public input will help the project team to analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact.

All of these types of materials should be going in with your household trash. Update on the Friedrichsohn Cooperage Contaminated PCB Cleanup Project
Update as of December 7, 2021
The removal of contaminated soil is complete and equipment is currently being removed. Restoration of the towpath will begin by December 17th. The coffer dams will be removed in January as well as the work trailers. In the Spring, the area will touched up with topsoil and seeds.

Momentive Assessment Lawsuit Settled
After lengthy negotiations and extensive legal action which included our retaining the services of a nationally recognized commercial appraisal firm, the Town of Waterford and the Waterford-Halfmoon School District have agreed to settle the assessment lawsuit.
In their lawsuit, Momentive had demanded that the property’s taxable assessed value be reduced from $195 million to $54 million. They also demanded a total refund in excess $12 million from the School District, Town of Waterford and Saratoga County for overpayment of taxes from 2016 – 2019.
The settlement establishes a taxable assessed value of $95 million and a total refund of $5 million to Momentive. The refund will consist of an approximate $3.5 million from the School District, approximately $1 million from the Town, and $500,000 from Saratoga County. The settlement prohibits any further assessment challenges by Momentive for a period of 5 years.
The $1 million Town refund and the ensuing loss of future tax revenues as a result of the reduction in the assessment is expected to negatively impact the Town’s 2021 operating budget. The Town Board will make every effort to offset this by reducing operating expenses and utilizing surplus funds to minimize the impact on Town taxpayers.
The final settlement reduced the potential tax refund liability by more than 50% and prevents Momentive from bringing future assessment challenges for five years. Given the potential for a much larger refund and an even greater reduction in the taxable assessed value, we are confident this settlement is in the best interest of our tax payers.
